Why wool-free?
After years of struggling with allergies to animal fibers, I am exploring and embracing the wonders of plant fibers. From finding beautiful hand dyed plant yarns, substituting yarns in popular patterns, and learning to spin with cellulose bases, I am on a mission to unlock the magic of plant based knitwear.
This is a site dedicated to the mystical world of knitting without animal fibers. So much of the knitting and crocheting world is centered around working with woolly yarns, but what if you are a knitter with animal fiber allergies (yes, some of us are really, truly allergic to wool), live a climate that makes wool impractical, or you just prefer to work with non-animal based products? It is easy to feel left out and even ridiculed for your yarn choices. I have been there and wanted to create a space dedicate to all the other wonderful fibers available.
Here we will explore the universe of fluffy, squishy yarns that are free of animal fibers and design engaging knitting patterns that will work up beautifully with non-wooly yarns.
